Legal custody refers to a parent’s decision-making ability in all matters involving their child. The state of Florida has revised child custody legal terms in an effort to promote co-parenting. “Custody” has been replaced with the term “parental responsibility”, while “visitation” is now referred to as “time-sharing.”

These changes were implemented with the goal of encouraging healthier relationships among family members (post-divorce or the separation of an unmarried couple). This update has caused a shift from the concept of one parent having full control over a child to the modern belief of a child’s right to maintain healthy relationships with both parents.

Parenting Plans are prepared and tailored to each client’s needs and family dynamics. Parenting Plans include the rights and obligations of both parents. This modern approach by the courts ensures children are raised in accordance to parenting plans truly designed in their best interests.
